Putting a new face forwardStep right up, ladies & gents. That's right, i have an announcement to make:
i've got a new job!
*squeal*
& it's in the beauty industry!
*double squeal & hopping on 1 foot (because i can)*
All my hard work in sending out resumes & pestering the HR have paid off. So happy!
Heart thumped like mad when i went to tender but it was all worth it. Feel much lighter now, despite the heavy workload that i have to clear by end of the month.
i can't wait to start my new career. Hopefully all staff get free samples or huge ass discounts... heh heh... then i wun have to buy other gifts ever again! Happy birthday... here's a cheek rouge! Congratulations, which gloss colour do you prefer? Have an eyeshadow on me, or 2!
& the best part is, i will have a short break in between my last day at current place & the first at the new place (which, did i mention is only 5 bus stops away from my house?!) so i will be going to sunny Phuket with GX!
After more than a year, i'm finally going away from Singapore for a relaxing trip. Without having to think of work. Company retreats are sooo not considered holidays. If nothing else, they bring more stress - all the presentation & corporate gifts & prizes to prepare.
Isn't this great? 2 of my new year resolutions are coming true already... & it's only March! Sooo on schedule.

Long weekend is overrr...Omg, 4 days of R&R flew past just like *snap of fingers*
that.
CNY, despite all the shops being closed with nowhere decent to hang out & the constant ringing of
cheena music everywhere public, was a highly anticipated holiday this yr, if only for its ultra long weekend.
Which other public holiday in Singapore gives u 2 whole days off, u tell me? & for it to lengthen the weekend... sweet! Although, that took away the half day on the eve, but it's a worthwhile sacrifice, if u ask me.
& i hear we have more long weekends to look forward to in 2009 - something cheerful to lift the gloomy clouds over the bleak economic situation.
Great start to the year! Cheers to holidays & long weekends!
Alas & alack, it's over too soon & back to work we go.
Trudging
Dragging our two feet
Heads low
Shoulders slumped
To our desks we go

5 parking lots to avoid like the plagueIt seems to be the general consensus among Singaporean car-owners that no matter how carefully u drive, ur ride is bound to end up less-than-pristine before ur free road tax is up for renewal. This i garnered from extensive research online at 2 fora, reading a few of the rambling threads.
& of cos, from experience. Reborn is hardly 3 months old & already scratches abound, not to mention the huge hole that Komoco put in my front fender when it was sent for the free servicing. Yes, i will neither forgive nor forget the injustice. When u make mistakes, admit it, dammit, especially when u've been found out!
*grumble grumble*
So anyway, as a public service & also a reminder to self, i shall list down the 5 parking lots that spell doom for cars.
1. Construction site
It may sound obvious but when there are freaking no other lots available, one might be tempted to park next to where construction might be ongoing, along with the other idiots who have done so.
& sites include the temporary wooden sheds to house whatever tools they need for the job to be done.
Aside from the dust that will engulf ur gleaming ride, think of the gratitude foreign workers feel might implode in their chests whenever they break their backs in the sweltering hot sun digging concrete to to improve building/road conditions for u - the Singaporean - & earn enough remittance to send home.
Then think of the long route they'd take around the parking lot to wheel the concrete from the construction site to the dumping ground.
THEY DON'T. They're not idiots, u know, unlike the people who park there. They know the shortest route from pt A to pt B is a straight line. Even if it means squeezing their wheelbarrow between cars. That's right, their squat, green, dirt-covered wheelbarrows. Between ur car & the next sucker's.
Of cos, if u both own the skinny Mitsubishi-i or Subaru R1 & have parked as far as u could have away from each other to ensure nobody associates u together, ur rides could go unscathed. Otherwise, good luck.
Reborn had a long green scratch by the side, thanks to a hardworking construction fella.
2. Loading/unloading bay
Goods-carrying vehicles include pick-ups, vans, lorries & huge-ass trucks. If ur carpark includes a loading/unloading bay, like mine, it is never wise to park anywhere near it.
In general, drivers in Singapore are selfish. More so if they are in the line of duty. It's ur own problem if the hardworker's vehicle blocks ur path out while they move goods. They are working, dammit!
Ok, no problem... u're in no hurry. Let's just wait till they're done & clear out. How long could it take, right?
Tell that to the other hardworker desperate to get out of his parking lot next to urs.
Watch in horror as the stupid van/pick-up/lorry driver tries to inch its way out between ur ride & the adjacent big-ass truck, coming this close to sending ur car spinning off into the sunset.
Which brings me to the next point.
3. Lesser vehicle
Another no-brainer but which must be emphasized. Working vehicles, like the lot mentioned in the previous segment, are only important to the companies they belong to.
Unlike u, who treat ur ride like the most precious baby on earth, they are not worth a cent to the worker drivers who view them only as transport. Hence a scratch here, a dent there, is of no concern and doors are swung open with the mighty force of Goliath whenever they clamber in & out. It's ur fault for parking too closely if metals collide. & it's no skin off their noses.
U, on the other hand, will be left gaping at the missing paint on ur car door while they ride off into the sunset to collect their day's earnings.
Whenever possible, park next to Mercs & Beemers.
4 & 5. Corners
So if one has to park away from busy sites & goods-carrying vehicles, the best lot would be at the corner right? U could park right at the edge, away from the next car so that u both will have no excuse to exchange insurance cards.
WRONG! Let's examine the 2 possible "best spot" corners.
Corner 1: Next to the tarmac in open-space carparks or next to the slopes in multi-storeys.
Ever heard of DK? That's Drift King, for the less-informed. Over- & understeering are common & the 1st car that lies in danger from these curving maniacs... is urs. Especially if urs has a long snout that protrudes attractively from the allocated space.
Congratulations if u own a Jazz, u're pretty safe. An atomic bomb couldn't find your bonnet if it tried.
Corner 2: Next to pavement.
There, now u're protected from crazy DKs. Or P-plates. Hah... but u forgot crazy pedestrians.
Bags with metals locks, Tiffany platinum bracelets, even bicycle handlebars are magnetically attracted to ur ride. & somehow, their everyday belongings will turn to diamonds the moment they come in contact with ur ride. They will leave unscathed but ur car, as warned, will bear the scars.
So really, if u can't park between cars & u can't squeeze into any corner, where should u park (assuming not everyone lives on landed property with their very own parking space)?
U could try this.

Let me know how it works out.

Small in size, big in bravadoWatched Okto last night (this channel has many of my favourite stuff.. yay!) & there was this documentary 'The World's Smallest Mum' that left an impression.
The protagonist is a 20-year-old ang moh "not a girl, not yet a woman" who suffers from a rare muscle disorder. She has all the muscles a normal person has, they are just cramped together and she can't grow to full height. She's vertically challenged and has limbs shorter than most, which causes a lot of inconveniences, as u can imagine.
The most amazing of all, is that she just gave birth to a precious girl (who is likely to inherit her disability). i think she's very brave to have carried the child to almost full-term, given her youth and her physical issue. If the child grew too big inside her, the child could have crushed her heart and lungs. High risk pregnancy, they call it.
More admirable, though, i feel is the fiance. He's only 19 and has to take care of her
& the baby. He carries her everywhere, as she has a leg shorter than the other & can't move around on her own properly. Even changing the baby's diaper proves a challenging chore for her.
In fact, i think taking care of her is like taking care of a baby. Except it's a duty that lasts forever. & in future, he's likely to be saddled with both of them remaining midget-like. If a normal couple can face insurmountable obstacles on their path to true love, it must be doubly hard for this odd couple.
Sometimes, when i come across such "human spirit" stories, it just makes me feel grateful that i'm able, healthy (as far as i know) & loved.
Until i wake up on Mondays.

Dullest Blog in the WorldOMFG, i've a rival in this space which i tot never existed, thanks to 8 Days.
Apparently he has been boring people around the world since 2003.
i can't imagine how he came up with such an ingenius blog. This, ladies & gents, is what a diary lives for.
What else, if not chronicling every bit of your life?
i think he shld make the post titles more ambiguous though. Then at least there's some mystery... oh wait, that would make it less boring wouldn't it? & that wouldn't do, cos it is The Dullest Blog In The World.

Goodbye 2008This is one year where i filled my own christmas stockings with some of the things that i've always wanted.
1. Reborn - my baby i30
2. Coach wristlet
3. Er...
That's it?! & i only got the above items in the last quarter of the year. Meaning for most of 2008, it has been *yawn* ho-hum. Which was probably why i decided to excite my senses with Reborn & later my Coach.
*sings* Shopping for labels... shopping for love...
Resolution for 2009 (been some time since i made a list) in no particular order:
1. Save more
2. Spend less
3. Go on holiday
4. Get a better job
5. Zhng my car (somehow)
6. Spend more time with family
7. Spend more time with Ruki
8. Spend more time with friends
9. Start using beautiful false lashes
10. Perfect my driving skill
Hmmm... many of them are quite contradictory. #1 & 2, for instance, already means #3, 5, 9 & 10 will be limited to the bare minimum, if even realised.
But perhaps, if #4 comes with a huge pay packet, then the equation would still work out... *crosses fingers & toes*
Anybody who has a
lobang, pls let me know yeah? i do branding, marketing, public relations and events-management. Plus i have exquisite aesthetic sense.
i'm a good buy!

Earth only has 6 billion people?!Why, there're playboys with more money than there are humans in the world. According to
Forbes, there's a whopping 946 billionaires last year, including 178 newcomers. & their combined net worth climbed by US$900 billion to
US$3.5 trillion.
The richest man - Bill Gates, by the way, for the 14th time or so consecutively - could give each human being money to buy a Happy Meal & still have enought leftover to buy himself a few dozen. Hundred.
Boggles the mind.
i just made a blunder at work, citing that 25
billion people will be put out of work during this recession, when i was told most nicely (with a straight face, no doubt) that there are only 6 billion people in the world. Hence my data is so inaccurate it could only have been conceived out of space.

Labels LoveThere is no denying the amount of branded visuals we are subjected to daily - at every corner is a LV/Gucci/Coach handbag toted around on someone's shoulder/arm/wrist.
Yes, i'm talking about the coveted branded bags. Ask any woman - branded bags are never enough.
i had the thrill of starting off with my very 1st item of lust last weekend. GX, out of the goodness of his heart (i swear, no arm twisting), decided to bestow me with a Xmas gift of choice. Of cos, i took the opportunity to chop cabbage head.
i wanted a wristlet clutch which i can bring along whenever i drive. Somehow, driving makes me feel like i can live on a night out with a teensy weensy carrier; extra items could always be deposited in Reborn.
Not just any wristlet, mind. 'Coach' popped to mind. It's branded, but not too excessively overpriced like the higher-ups. And a quick search online at the offcial store confirmed that the wristlets were within means, and superliciously gorgeous!
i never did understand the obsession with branded bags & i used to scoff at people who forked out thousands for an LV loaf, but now i have to reconsider my stand.
First of all, the service at the store is impeccable. The cashier actually came out from behind the counter to pass us our purchase in an oh-so-pretty paperbag emblazoned with the Coach logo in gold. Makes one feel VIP. & they should, tho, since you had to shell out hundreds at a time for anything decent.
& the designs are absolutely beautiful (for most... there were some that looked plastic and could have cost only $10 or less to produce). When i saw the price tags, i nearly cringed; like totally far off from the prices indicated online - the exchange rate didn't justify the difference.
So i kiv'd. Anybody who's been shopping with me knows my habit of kiv-ing items of lust. i seldom buy on the spot becos history has taught me that impulse buys would be a huge mistake. i'd window-shop somemore to make sure that my item of lust is really the best option available out there.
In the end, there simply wasn't any other wristlet in the whole of City Hall area that could match its beauty or price ie. prettier ones were too expensive and relatively cheaper ones were not up to aesthetic standards.
It is the Madison Op Art Capacity Wristlet in dark chocolatey brown (couldn't find the brown version so put this instead):

Of cos, the logo is the icing on the cake.

Reborn is reborneFinally, Reborn is back safely with us again. Mum & i went to collect it yesterday evening (& the Komoco service manager still had the cheek to hurry us - we have to work ok, not as if i want to leave Reborn in your clumsy hands for longer than necessary?!)
They knocked the dent back & re-sprayed the paintwork. It looks like there never was an accident. However my colleague just happily informed me that such repair work is likely to give way to the Attack of the Rust: the metal body's protective layer for that part is no longer there after the repair so wille asily get rusty.
WTF?!
i'll demand a new fender/car if that happens. i still have the letter that indicated (no, they wouldn't blatantly admit their fault) the whole issue arose @ Komoco so they are responsible.
But GX assures me that the new coat of paint should be able to prevent the rust (if done properly, huge IF)... so we shall see.
i dunno how i can ever rest assured in sending my car there for servicing again... will prob jump ship to someone else more reputable or reliable once the free servicings are used up. That's how unpleasant this whole experience was.
& GX says to treat the incident as Reborn getting a costume change (like in the comics/animation).

Cute right?
